Chapter 6 - Help wanted

With Susie gone to her own place, the apartment seemed empty, and Lexi was alone. She sat at her computer and designed an ad, printing it on a white piece of paper, cutting little strips with her number so people could tear them off and give her a call. She walked across the street to the bus stop and stuck the paper to the glass wall using scotch tape before getting back home, smiling.

She made herself a nice cup of tea, then sat by the window watching like a fisherman, waiting for the fish to bite. It wasn’t long before she saw Tom come and sit there wearing his old hoodie. He always came there at the same time, stalking her from the moment she became a hooker.

Some twenty minutes later, Tom got bored and looked around, noticing the paper in the process. At first, he didn’t see it then, suddenly he jumped up, checking the number printed on little strips. There were a few strips torn off. Lexi took them herself, so the paper looked like someone was interested.

Tom immediately recognised the number. He called it a million times. He knew it by heart; it was Lexi’s.

She saw him pace backwards and forwards, waving his hands in anger, clearly upset. After another half hour of pacing, Lexi saw Tom angrily walk towards her building and back. Eventually, he left without a trace, and Lexi giggled and took a bath.

Sometime later, the ringing of the phone interrupted the music it played.

Someone rang from an unknown number. Lexi answered and heard a raspy male voice from the other side, clearly speaking using hands-free with a London gutter accent enquiring about the job.

“I’m sorry, but I was hoping to find a girl, not a guy. I don’t think you would be very well suited for this type of job.”

“No, I mean, I don’t know. In principle, I wouldn’t mind a guy, but I don’t know any guy who would agree to my terms.”

“Yes, I understand. Maybe if the guy was gay, it could work, but I am not sure.”

“Yes, sure, I get your situation, but I really think that it is not for you.”

“Of course, I understand, but you don’t get it. This is not like being a maid, and there are complications. See, I am an escort, and I need someone with specialist skills, open-minded and ready to do things that might be considered disgusting.”

“Yes, okay, I will give you a chance. Let’s talk, and if you still want it, we could meet up and discuss it”. Lexi proceeded to talk to the guy going into minute, explicit details of what was required for the job, laying it on thick.

On the other hand, the guy kept insisting that he could do it, pressing it further until Lexi agreed to meet with him. At this point, the man just disconnected, and the music started to play again. Lexi smiled, stretching in a bath touching yellow ducky’s nose and taking a sip of champagne.
